Bharavi Labs introduce two types of iodobenzene resins

Bharavi Labs introduce two types of polymer-bound iodobenzene resins providing polymer-bound iodine for organic synthesis. The high-load (~4 mmol iodine/g) product, though based on 1% cross linked polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, is soluble in organic solvents like DCM and THF from which it may be precipitated by ethanol. Bharavi offer 100 kg to 1000 kg lots of 1% polystyrene-divinylbenzene (100-200 or 200-400 mesh sizes) and Merrifield resins (Cl loading to be specified by the user). The second type is 4-iodophenol linked to PS-DVB via a benzyl ether linkage. It is an insoluble polymer with an iodine loading of ~2 mmol/g. Both can be converted into hypervalent iodine reagents for organic synthesis (see: S. V. Ley, et al., J. Chem. Soc. Perkin I, 1999, 669-671)

Bioreason launches ClassPharmer

Bioreason, Inc., released the first module of its new suite of HTS analysis tools being developed for the Microsoft Windows desktop environment. The module, called ClassPharmer™, is a standalone product that incorporates topology-based technology for building structural classes of chemical compounds. This new product captures more of the chemists’ natural intuition about how families of compounds that show positive in screening for new therapeutic agents can be organized to determine the most promising drug leads.

ClassPharmer™ is a desktop tool for personal use that eliminates the sorting and searching required to organize the compounds that traditionally are returned as hits from screening a library against a target. The software automatically finds the natural chemical families in the data, and deduces from the data on the fly the underlying structural core that defines the families. ClassPharmer™’s integrated viewer allows the user to manipulate and annotate the classes, and to export them into reports or other external tools for further processing.

New Genevac R4

Genevac has launched the R4 Random Access evaporation system, designed to aid efficient solvent evaporation from purified sample fractions. The new Genevac centrifugal evaporation system for HPLC purification applications prevents rotor imbalance and sample overheat during solvent evaporation.

Purified fractions consisting of varying gradients of water and acetonitrile with the resulting difference in evaporation rates, often causes rotor imbalance during the drying process, can cause significant instrument vibration and shut down. In addition, fast drying fractions can reach unacceptable temperatures without adequate temperature control. The R-4 system incorporates the Auto Balancing Mechanism to continuously compensate for up to 250 g rotor imbalance during the drying process to allow smooth operation. The sample rotor, constructed from solid aluminum, is controlled by the RotorGuard infrared temperature controller to allow rapid evaporation of all samples without the risk of overheating fast drying fractions.

Platform Computing Corporation launch LSF ActiveCluster

Platform Computing Corporation announced the launch of software that allows enterprises to harness the unused processing power of their desktop computers. The computational power of most PCs is wasted approximately 90 percent of the time, so tapping into this resource lets enterprises realize a significant jump in processing power with no additional hardware investment. LSF ActiveCluster extends Platform's core Load Sharing Facility (LSF) product line, which distributes computing jobs to servers and workstations.

Companies with computationally intense problems, such as gene sequencing and drug design or high throughput testing, have traditionally run simulations on supercomputers or clusters of dedicated Unix/Linux/NT workstations. LSF ActiveCluster, a complementary technology, allows enterprises to extend their processing reach by taking advantage of unused desktop cycles. When a PC is idle or underutilized, it contacts the LSF ActiveCluster server, which dispatches a suitable distributed computing job. Once the desktop completes the task, it returns results to the server and is assigned a new task. The LSF ActiveCluster client runs as a continuous background process, so the PC user sees no decrease in performance.
