A major benefit of flow chemistry is the ease and consistency of reaction scale up. In a flow reactor, high quality, reproducible mixing, excellent temperature control and superheating are maintained when increasing reaction volume.

In this application note an FRX 200 system was used to synthesise 376g of Salicylaldehyde allyl ether. This preparation had previously been performed in flow using a longer residence time (113 minutes at room temperature). Initial, gram scale, experiments were conducted to define the optimum conversion conditions. The same apparatus was then used for scale-up.
